Northwest Nazarene University – An Overview

The Northwest Nazarene University is located in Nampa, Idaho, outside the capital city of Boise. The university was set up in 1913 and has not only maintained its academic quality but has also excelled in other fields like sports, culture and community work. It is a Christian Liberal Arts University and it follows three golden visionary statements that they themselves have set. These statements are:

1) Development of Christian character within the philosophy and framework of genuine scholarship. 2) Prepare a student spiritually, socially and academically so that he can make a difference in all spheres. 3) The motto of the university is Seek ye first the Kingdom of God."

The President of the university is Dr. Richard A. Hagood. It has a student faculty ratio of 13:1 and has more than 105 full time faculty members. Some other academic schools or branches of the universities are -School of Health and Science; School of Academic Resources; Humanities and Social Sciences; School of Arts, School of Education, Social Work and Counseling and School of Theology and Christian Ministries, School of Business. The university offers bachelor degrees in arts, science, applied studies, nursing, social work, spiritual formation, business and ministry.

This university is affiliated to the church of Nazarene and has also received accreditation from a lot of areas, such as the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, the National Association of Schools of Music and the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education the Council on Social Work Education.

Northwest Nazarene University has achieved a lot in diverse fields. Some of the achievements are mentioned below:

* In the last 10 years, 95 percent of the students who applied in medical colleges got selected. * NNU students have traveled to places like France, England, Mexico, Germany, Chile and around the United States in university ministry and academic programs in the year 2004 and 2005. * The graduates of the Northwest Nazarene University are well respected citizens of the society. They have moved on to different profession such as being company presidents, lawyers, doctors, journalists as well as astronauts. * The university has a pleasant atmosphere. Other activities that you can pursue, apart from studying are river rafting, camping, rock climbing, camping, hiking and fishing. These activities are just an hour away from the campus. * NNU students have participated in NCAA division II competition in a range of sports like Basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, volleyball, track and field. * Northwest Nazarene University offers a range of opportunity in the fields of art and culture also.
